“These are the commandments, which the LORD commanded Moses for the children of Israel in mount Sinai.”  Leviticus 27:34 (KJV)

The commandments the LORD gave to Israel on Mount Sinai are many.  The Ten Commandments given in Exodus 20 are a condensed version of the others given throughout the books of the Law, and Leviticus.

We learn from these laws, from Leviticus, that GOD is holy – He is separate, distinct, and living.  He is true and faithful to His Word, Himself, and to fulfill all that He has said.  Many of the laws of Leviticus were given for the Levites to follow in their worship of God, and leading the people in worship.  I have heard many professing Christians say something like this… “When Christ died on the cross He done away with the law”.  I do not believe the Bible states that in any way or form.

Jesus Himself said…

“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” Matthew 5:17-18

There is a danger in teaching that the law has been done away with or destroyed.  In that same thought Jesus said…

“Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.  Matthew 5:19

The law according to the apostle Paul was given to us to be a “school master” which will bring us to Christ (Galatians 3:24).  The law shows us that it is impossible to come to God in our own righteousness, or our own merit.  We had just as well take a rock in our hand, and endeavor with all our might to hit the moon with that rock.

The only way we can please God is by perfect righteousness and holiness according to His law.  We fall short of His glory (Romans 3:23).  God has not left us without hope.  Where we are condemned by the law;  God offers us redemption through the death of the Substitutionary death of His Son Jesus.  He took my place.  He took your place.  He fulfilled the demands of the law because He is without sin, yet willingly went to the cross, and died for our sins.  He died, was buried, and He rose again the third day.  His name is Jesus the Christ, the Son of God and God the Son.

Believe Him.  Call on His name and He will hear you.
