There are many who are reliant for the government to protect us.  Protect us from having no health care; protect us from a lethal threat from a gunman, or the terrorist who go to great lengths to terrorize, maim, and kill great numbers of people.  Some even desire the government to protect us from poverty and hunger.

I want to leave us with these thoughts…

“God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of His holiness. The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham: for the shields of the earth belong unto God: He is greatly exalted.” Psalm 47:8-9  (KJB)

It is quite clear from David’s view that it is God who reigns.  God reigns even in the foreign lands through the despots and dictators.  We do not, nor can we understand God’s rule, the way He rules; but He reigns in the hearts of all men and women.

The “Princes” mentioned in the verses above are the ones who have the care of their people at heart.  Those especially who are the people of God.  They are “The shields of the earth” who belong to God.

These point us to God as our Chief, our Shield, our Savior, our Creator, our Sustainer.  These “shields” are our protectors who protect us from evil, and the evil one; by pointing us to God.

It is God who gives these shields.  He points us to Christ Jesus His Son who bled and died on the cross of Calvary, was buried, and He rose again.  Call on Him, and He will save you from all your sin, death, guilt, and shame.
