There are many phrases used throughout the prophecy of Ezekiel. “Son of man” how the LORD speaks to Ezekiel, an endearing term for him; another phrase used a little less often is “They, [we],or [you] shall know that I am the LORD”. That is the one to which I write today.
I have noted that phrase at least 63 times throughout the prophecy of Ezekiel. From chapter six through chapter 39. It is also a phrase you will read throughout the Old Testament. It becomes quite clear to me that the LORD desires that all people would know Him, love Him, and cherish Him, and that He will do whatever it takes to redeem fallen humanity.
The following verses deal with the second usage of that phrase, “They shall know that I am the LORD.”
“Yet will I leave a remnant, that ye may have some that shall escape the sword among the nations, when ye shall be scattered through the countries. And they that escape of you shall remember Me among the nations whither they shall be carried captives, because I am broken with their whorish heart, which hath departed from Me, and with their eyes, which go a whoring after their idols: and they shall lothe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations. And they shall know that I am the LORD, and that I have not said in vain that I would do this evil unto them.” Ezekiel 6:8-10 (KJV)
God does not do evil. He does judge his people when they stray. He also will judge nations and people who treat His people in evil ways.
There are many who profess to know “God”, but claim that he does not judge, that he is only a god of love. They have made god in their own image; a fallen, evil, and frail image (Psalm 115:4-8). Those who do that are still lost in their sins; are in condemnation, guilt, and sin. Come to know the true God through His Son Jesus Christ; who took the judgment for our sins; in His burial He carried them away; and in His resurrection He showed that sin, its shame, its condemnation and death had been conquered (Romans 1:4).
God, the Creator, Father of Jesus Christ made the way for us to come to Him; to know Him, and to be known by Him (John 10:14-15). That is by way of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. Know that He is the LORD today. He does not speak, or act without purpose.
