Set Your Heart

Daniel was praying, fighting a spiritual battle.  You will be able to see that as  you read the tenth chapter of Daniel.  He desired to understand what he had seen and heard concerning the visions and dreams.  As this “man” appears to him he is weakened, and then strengthened.

We hear the messenger call Daniel “man greatly beloved”, and several times through this scene of time.  For the Scripture today we hear him say…

“Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.” Daniel 10:12 (KJV)

This messenger knows Daniel’s heart.  It is set on understanding.  That is why he is spending days in prayer, fasting, and chastening himself to understand.  He knows it is God’s prerogative to give him understanding; but Daniel has his heart set on it.

We are told in the Gospels that Jesus “…Stedfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem…” (Luke 9:51).  Jesus had His face set, His heart set on going to the place of His suffering and death.  That is how Daniel’s heart was set.

We, as Christians, so need to have our hearts set on the things of God.  His word, and understanding it; and applying it to our lives and our present life’s situation.  The Word of God in the Spirit of God is applicable to every day’s situations and challenges.

Fear not.  God hears.  He understands.  He will give you understanding.  Set your heart on Him.
