“It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.” Proverbs 31:4-5 (KJV)

The mind of a king, a leader of a nation ought to always have a clear mind that he be able to give right judgment, and make clear policy decisions, judging his people rightly.

This would go for presidents, prime ministers, senators, representatives, and governors as well.

Christians are to be leaders and are a “Royal priesthood” (1 Peter 2:9) under Christ Jesus; so we too are to have clear, sober minds.
