“For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.” 1 Thessalonians 1:5 (KJV)
The apostle Paul mentions the power of the gospel of Christ in every one of his letters he has written to the churches (Romans 1:4, 16; 1 Corinthians 1:18; 2 Corinthians 5:17, and more).
The gospel to which Paul refers is the only true gospel, and it is the gospel of Jesus Christ which is that He died, was buried and He rose again. The word “Gospel” means “Good news”, and for the lost, condemned, dying man, woman, boy or girl it is good news; and it is powerful to deliver from sins guilt, shame, power, death, condemnation; and will make one into a new man or woman for Christ Jesus.
The only answer for all the world’s evils and ills, its hatred, strife, murders, adulteries, and all immorality is the gospel of Jesus Christ.
It is not just powerful in word, but it works in the power of the Spirit of God – the Holy Spirit – and does a work in us, abides in us, to do the work of Christ in and through us. The witness we give is a show of the power of the gospel of Christ. The question needs to be asked; How then do others see me? Do they see what God in Christ has done, and is doing in me?
