So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. Genesis 3:24 (KJV)
The first man (Adam) and woman (Eve) were created by God and placed in a garden called Eden. There was no better place for them. If they needed for anything it was there. All the fruits, vegetables, grains for food was there. God was there. He walked with them. They were given one commandment – Genesis 2:16. In short it was “Do not eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil”.
The argument “If they would have had a better growing up environment they would not have done those things” cannot apply to Adam and Eve. They were in a perfect place; yet they were thrown out of paradise.
Since Adam and Eve were “Innocent” and yet sinned against God, and God did not take their lives but rather redeemed them with the lives of innocent animals Genesis 3:21 and it very well could have been lambs to remind men and women of all ages of the Lamb of God who would come, and who came to take away the sin of the world (John 1:29, 36).
Why a cherubim with a flaming sword to guard the way of the tree of life? Would you want to live forever, eternally with disease, and pain? God’s driving them out of the garden was a work of mercy; and He had a plan: and He has the same plan for you.
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, who is our Redeemer; and be saved.
