Reading for today January 15, 2018: Genesis 39 – 41
This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do He sheweth unto Pharaoh. Genesis 41:28 (KJV)
In verse 25 of this same chapter Joseph has told the Pharaoh, “The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what He is about to do.”
Joseph has been imprisoned for something he did not do. He is still very much loved by God, and he loves God. Every life Joseph has entered has been blessed as a result of God being with Joseph wherever he is. At the point of these verses Joseph has been called for due to a dream which the Pharaoh has had involving seven fat cows and seven lean cows, and seven good ears of grain and seven thin ears thin and blighted. The Pharaoh could not find anyone who could tell him the meaning of the dream until a man who had been in the prison with Joseph remembered Joseph interpreting his own dream and it being fulfilled just as Joseph had said.
Now, there are some in this day who do not believe that God knows the events of the future, from one day to the next, any better than I do or better than you. We never know what a day will bring but to equate God with no more knowledge than me, is complete ignorance of God.
The event with Joseph before the Pharaoh should be convincing enough to the doubting mind; if they believe Scripture; to realize, and to accept that God is All-Knowing (Omniscient), and He does know the beginning from the end. He knows when things begin and when they end. He knows the day of my birth and He knows the day of my death.
There is a great truth here in Genesis. One that I see very clearly is that God is preparing to make a nation of His people. Joseph had heard God through his own dreams of one day ruling over his family and them coming to bow down to him, and they do in later chapters of Genesis.
Remember the prophet Amos’s words… “Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, unless He reveals His secrets to His servants the prophets.” Amos 3:7 (NKJV). Also read Psalm 105:16-19.
We as God’s people must realize that God is revealing Himself and His word to us every day. We must, however, be in the reading and study of His word to have an open ear and heart to know and do His will. God is working and moving in our His people, our churches, Nation, and throughout the world.
