“For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward…”  Deuteronomy 10:17 (KJB)

Sorry to disappoint you sports fans but this is not about any of your heroes in baseball, football, soccer, basketball, downhill skiing, nor any other of these; not even golf.

There is only One whom this title fits.  He is GOD.

As I looked at this passage of Scripture this morning, and though I do not know the original languages, I noted that there is a use of the words that I needed to check on in Strong’s Concordance.  Names for God such as “LORD”,  “God”, “god”, “Lord”, and “lord”.  Here is the way that would read in the English language using these Hebrew words.

“For the Jehovah [YaHWeH] your Elohim is Elohim of elohims, and Adon of adons…”  Translated… “The Self-Existing One is the Plural One over the plurality of gods made by men, and He is the Master of all masters…”

Now,  I am no scholar, and I do not pretend to be, but that makes it quite clear to me that GOD is God, and there is no other who is All-Powerful, All-Knowing, All-Present and Immutable.  Yet, He too is a plurality.  He is Father.  He is Son.  He is Holy Spirit.  All present working in creation, and since then, and is working today as One.

Jehovah is Israel’s God.  He is God period.  There is none other who has spoken all that is into existence, into its place.  He is Elohim in that He is three persons, yet One – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – working today just as on the day of creation.  The Son became flesh (John 1:14) and dwelt among us, died for our sins, and rose again.  His name is Jesus.

When you know God – Jehovah – you know Jesus as His Son (John 5:23; 1 John 2:22-24; 2 John 1:9).  When you know Jesus as His Son crucified, buried, and bodily raised to life again you know the Father.

I pray you know Jesus.  For without Jesus you cannot and will not know God the Father.  He alone is the Great, the Mighty, and the Awesome One.
