Reading today from Ruth 2 – 1 Samuel 1…

“And she said, ‘Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD. For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of Him: therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD.’ And he worshipped the LORD there.” 1 Samuel 1:26-28  (KJB)

Give your child away?  Really!  Is this for real?  It is real, but not in the sense of giving them to someone who is going to mistreat them, and not love them, or to leave them without instruction for life.

Not too many mothers would give the child they had plead with the LORD for back to Him as Hannah did. Her husband was Elimelech.  Of course, this is not the same one who was Naomi’s husband (Ruth 1) who died in Moab.

Mothers and fathers need very much to realize that children are a gift from God.  Whether we have asked God for them or not, they are His gift to us.  They are not our curse, neither are they our cross to bear.

Yet, it must be said that we must give them back to God.  Love them while we have them in our care, pray for them always, teach them of God, His laws, His word, His love, His grace and mercy, lead them to the Lord GOD, lead them to give themselves wholly to Him.  Then, watch God work.

Hannah had plead with God for a child, and for years, and He gave her Samuel; and after he was weaned she took to Shiloh (the place of worship), and gave him to God for the rest of his life.  Samuel was a leader and prophet of Israel, used by God to choose their first king.

Give your child away, and watch God work.  Give your child to God through the finished work of Christ Jesus.
