The Power of Music

I was thinking as I was reading through these genealogical records of the Levites, and their family that I was not going to find much for encouragement for the Christian in all this “Important for Israel” stuff.  God is great, and God is good…  And I thank Him every day for my sustenance and strength that He gives.  He showed me the following verse for today…

“All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.” 1Chronicles 25:4  (KJB)

This genealogy is important for the returning remnant to Jerusalem after their 70 year exile in Babylon.  It is important for them to know the order of leadership in worship to God so that they might worship God properly, to exalt His name over the false gods around them.  Heman was the man when King David reigned, so it would be proper to put in members of his family as those proclaiming the music; as long as they had a prophetic heart for the words of God.

It seems that by the words, “…To exalt his horn” might be implying the power to influence others in exalting David as king of Israel.  There is power in the horn, a trumpet, shophar, or another horn when blown gets the attention of those around.  All music has power to influence.

Music is a powerful mode of communication.  It encourages, it motivates, it comforts, it often rebukes and corrects.  Music loves. Music hates.  It offers love, motivates love and hatred.  It can be used to inspire life or violence to murder and chaos…

Music is an important part of people’s everyday lives, and living.  Personally, I listen to good Christian  gospel music in my car and/or truck while driving.  We have our radio in the house set to that same channel.  My favorite mode of music is Southern Gospel, Blue Grass, and Country with a good message that inspires, informs, encourages and motivates me to love God, to love others – my neighbor, and to grow in Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior.

I love the old Hymns, sung along with a piano, organ, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, or the horn.  Or to just sing them without any instrument other than the human voice.  Hymns like – The Old Rugged Cross, Power in the Blood, Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, and many, many more.

Music and the instruments of music when used to glorify God exalt God,and those who lead in worship and leadership; and God blesses as He did Heman.

The greatest name to hear in music is the glorious name of Jesus the Christ Son of God, God the Son.
