What does the Bible say about the child of God marrying the unrepentant sinner in the world? This was a problem which became evident with Ezra as he looked at the many leaders when they returned to Jerusalem. How would or how should the Christian today handle such things?
Hear Ezra’s heart:
“O LORD God of Israel, Thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before Thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before Thee because of this.” Ezra 9:15 (KJB)
One of the things that is in God’s law concerning the people of Israel, and their coming into the land, following their exodus from Egypt and their journey to the Promised Land, was that they were not to join themselves with the inhabitants of this land. If you are at all familiar with the Bible you have read that.
I will not be dealing with the individual who has been married for years, comes to faith in Christ, then realizes their spouse is not a Christian. This is dealing with a deliberate, intentional disobedience to the word of God.
For the Christian today we have the New Testament telling us;
“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be My sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6:14-18
To willfully choose to wed an unbeliever is sin for the child of God. It does not matter the reasoning one may use. If you have done so you need; as did Ezra for his people; fall on your knees in sorrowful repentance, plead for forgiveness. Then pray for the salvation of your spouse.
It is time for those who profess to know God to believe His word, and that means live it, and live it to the fullest.
