“Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good. Man’s goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?” Proverbs 20:23-24 (KJB)
In those days of King Solomon, and before and after, for many years trade was conducted with produce through the use of scales and weights. The unjust buyer would in some cases have a heavier weight to weigh the sellers product, thus get more than he actually paid for. That was an abomination to the LORD.
Those kinds of things in trading are still unjust. Sadly they still continue among some business people who feel they can charge more for a lesser product. Did you hear the words above? Abomination to the LORD.
How do the two verses fit together? It is man who is cheating and stealing from others. It is man who is being cheated and stolen from. Both of these individuals are going to be held accountable to the LORD for their own actions, good or bad.
The LORD knows what is in the heart and mind of the thief; and He knows the heart and mind of the one stolen from; and He directs the affairs of both to accomplish His own will in them both.
God has made a way for both to know Him, and that is through the cross of Jesus Christ who died on the cross, was buried, and He rose again. Believe Him.
