We hear boasts and claims from people that something or someone is “The greatest…” We are easily lured to that which we esteem as great. It does not seem to be so when it comes to the Creator of the universe however. Oh, do not take me wrong, but He makes an excellent spare tire for many; but that is it.
Now a word from the prophet Amos…
“For, lo, He that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth, The LORD, The God of hosts, is His name.” Amos 4:13 (KJB)
God has spoken through Amos “Prepare to meet thy God” in verse 12. He has given warning to His people of impending judgment because they have forsaken God, His word and His way for the way of false gods, idols, and immoral living.
Take a look at the above verse. How can we forsake to great a God as the One who has made all things? It makes absolutely no sense.
He is the One who made the mountains. He made the wind. He knows our thoughts, and can reveal our thoughts to us (Just take a look at Daniel 2 for an example). He gives us the dawning of each day.
To turn from God to go our own way is similar to choosing a bologna sandwich when there is a nice juicy, freshly grilled T-bone steak to have. Maybe comparing a bologna sandwich to false gods is an insult to the bologna sandwich.
What is the name of the One who has made all things? He is the One who holds it all together. “Through Him all things consist” (Colossians 1:17). His name is Jesus, and He died on the cross, was buried, and He rose again. Believe Him means you trust Him.
