What did Jesus preach? What did He teach? To find the answer to that you must read the Gospels. The first thing He preached is repentance. That is a word we evidently do not like to hear today; but a necessary for us, none the less.
Hear the word from Matthew’s Gospel…
“From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, ‘Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand’.” Matthew 4:17 (KJB)
“From that time…” is speaking of the time following His baptism, and His temptation by the devil in the wilderness. This is the beginning of His public ministry. If you read the verses concerning the cousin of Jesus – John the Baptist – you will notice also that John’s preaching was of repentance (Matthew 3:1-2).
Jesus knew the need for repentance in that day. I believe He certainly sees the need for repentance in the world of 2018. It may seem like an archaic word for us; it is not.
People who never even think of God, His Son Jesus, or even what is right and what is wrong need to change their way of thinking; and that requires a change of mind and heart. That is the meaning of repentance.
What is “right”? It is what God has written, what He has said is good, holy, righteous, and just. What is “wrong”? It is what God calls an “Abomination”, or unjust, unholy, unrighteous, wicked, or sin. If God in His word says something is sinful or wicked then it is sinful and wicked. If God in His word says something is good, righteous, holy, and just then that is good.
The human race does not have the right to decide on its own what is right and wrong. However, that is what has happened in the past few years. Holiness is now evil. Evil is now holy. NOT! Only in the minds of wicked people. These need to repent for the kingdom of Heaven is at hand.
Jesus is calling for your repentance. You are on a path, a road to destruction. You need to turn around, and go the other way. You are headed away from God, walking on the same direction as Satan himself, toward Hell.
The only hope for you is Jesus and His death on the cross, His burial, and resurrection. Turn to Him, believe Him and agree with Him. You will live eternally with Him.
