Have you ever been lost?  Driving down a highway, and missing a turn is not the full meaning of being lost; you can simply turn around and go back.

A few years ago when our children were still at home I had a thought while we were traveling and I missed the turn to get to our destination, and we got down the road a few miles before I realized it.  One of the kids asked, “Are we lost?”, and my answer was “No. We are never lost, because we are always where we are at.”  That is a fine thought for when you miss a turn; but what about life, living, and eternity.  One day I answered someone that way and they asked, “Where are we?”  and “Right here” was and will always remain my answer; except in the matters of eternity.

I want to deal this morning with spiritual lostness.  Whether we admit it or not when we are born into this world we are all spiritually lost.  That means when we come into this world from our mother’s belly we are born separated from God.  We came out of the womb kicking and screaming for attention to us.

Why did Jesus come to earth as the Son of Man, the Son of God?  Hear what He said about that…

“For the Son of Man is come to save that which was lost.” Matthew 18:11  (KJB)

Just to keep this matter short; before anyone can be found they or we must realize that we are lost; we are separated from God, and doomed to eternity in Hell.  We are born in that condition, because of sin, and our transgression of God’s law.

Someone once said, “We are not sinners because we sin; we sin because we are sinners.”  That is the condition we are born into.  What does being sinners have to do with being lost?  Lostness is the state of sin.

The only way we can be found by God is for you and me to realize our sinful condition; our lostness away from God, doomed, and without hope.

Our only hope is Jesus and His death on the cross, His burial, and bodily resurrection.  O yes;  He is alive today.  Through His tremendous gift we can have eternal life with Him in His home in Heaven, in Glory.  Believe Him.  Call on His name.  He will hear, and He will save you; and you  will be found.
