“The Pharisees also came unto Him, tempting Him, and saying unto Him, ‘Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?’
And He answered and said unto them, ‘Have ye not read, that He which made at the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?’  Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.’
They say unto him, ‘Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?’
He saith unto them, ‘Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.’” Matthew 19:3-9 (KJB)

Pastor’s Prayer for today:

O God our Father,  We praise You because of who You are.  We recognize You as the author of marriage and the home.  You founded them from the beginning with our first parents – Adam and Eve.  You have made us male and female to love and complement one another and to make a home that will honor and glorify You.

Lord God You know better than we do that we fail, how we fail, when we fail; and You know that many of us have failed in marriage; and for that we seek Your forgiveness and healing.

Father we are all fallen human beings in need of Your grace.  May we as we have received grace also give it to others; even those we may not agree with or forgive us; even those whom we may have hatred for; and help us to forgive.  Help us to begin loving them by praying for them to come to You.

Dear Lord, since Marriage is Your institution would You strengthen it in those who are Yours.  May we who love You stand on the principles of Your word from Genesis through the Revelation on what we are told about marriage, the home, life, love, liberty, grace, and the law and the prophets too.

Forgive us our sins, and cleanse us.  Free us from our shame, condemnation, and guilt.  In the name of Jesus Your Blessed and holy Son; the Son of God, the Son of Man, and God the Son.  Amen.
