The Scripture reading for today is Numbers 28 – Deuteronomy 5.
The tribes of Rueben, Gad, and half tribe of Manasseh are given the land on the east side of Jordan; after they vow for the military men to cross over and fight for and with the rest of their brethren.
Things are settled concerning the females of the tribes inheritance, and keeping their marriage within their respective tribes (Numbers 28-36)
Deuteronomy is a reminder of all the things that has transpired since the leaving of Egypt, all their journey, and how the LORD is mighty, and keeping His promises of blessing and cursing. Those who refused to believe the LORD at Kadesh-Barnea would not enter the Promised Land, but would perish before their children and grandchildren.
“For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon Him for? And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?” Deuteronomy 4:7-8 (KJB)
If they should forsake God, and His commandments He warned them of the consequences – they would be scattered into other nations. The LORD said that He would not forget or forsake them…
“And the LORD shall scatter you among the nations, and ye shall be left few in number among the heathen, whither the LORD shall lead you. And there ye shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell. But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find Him, if thou seek Him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.
When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto His voice; (for the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) He will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which He sware unto them.” Deuteronomy 4:27-31
From these words we learn that God is faithful to keep His promise and to keep His people. He has saved us through the death, the burial, and the resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ. Call on His name and be saved.
