In Times Like These
1. Doubt, dispair, unbelief and fear; economic, health, and of terrorism; seem to rule in many lives.
2. Doctrines of prosperity, health, deceiving and being deceived; denying the cross of Jesus Christ is in many “evangelical” churches.
3. Many in places of power seek their own advantage rather than the good of the people they supposedly serve.
4. When the world is looking for a “leader” to lead them out of war, recession or depression, worldwide healthcare; what is the Christian to do in such a world?
I. BUILD YOUR FAITH ON THE SURE FOUNDATION OF JESUS CHRIST (v. 20; 1 Cor. 3:11; Eph. 2:20; Acts 20:32).
II. PRAY IN THE POWER OF THE SPIRIT; IN THE NAME OF JESUS (v. 20; Romans 8:26-27).
III. REMAIN IN THE PLACE OF OBEDIENCE GOD AND HIS LOVE (v. 21; Philippians 2:12-13; Heb. 12:5-11).
IV. LOOKING WITH EXPECTATION OF THE COMING OF OUR LORD (v. 21; Titus 2:13; 1 John 3:1-3; 2 Timothy 3:8).
V. HAVE COMPASSION ON THE DOUBTERS; HOWEVER, WITH FEAR WHEN THOSE DOUBTERS ARE DISCIPLES OF APOSTASY (vv. 22-23).
VI. TRUST IN THE ONE; WHO ALONE CAN KEEP US, AND DELIVER US FAULTLESS BEFORE THE PRESENCE OF THE FATHER (vv. 24-25; 1 Peter 1:3-5; Matthew 19:26; John 6:39, 40, 44).
i. We build our faith by putting faith to work in our hearts – hearing God, His Word, and then doing it with all our heart.
ii. Paul the apostle tells us to “pray without ceasing” – be consistent in prayer – believing God answers as we pray in His name.
iii. Everyday we should live with the espectancy of our Lord’s return; motivating us toward faith and obedience toward God.
iv. There are “doubters” in this world we must be on guard, yet compassionate toward them snatching some from the fire.
v. There is One and One alone who can deliver us “faultless” before heaven’s throne – Jesus the Christ.
