God loves those whom He knows and disciplines us when we get out of fellowship with Him. He can make us miserable when we sin against Him. Hear what the prophet Amos says…
“Hear this word that the LORD hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying, You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.” Amos 3:1-2 (KJV)
For some strange reason people have gotten to the point where they believe love is without discipline. That is like a doctor does better medicine if when he/she knows you have a terminal disease he just does not tell you about it. Now that is love. Right? NOT!
God chastises those He loves (Hebrews 12:7-8) When we sin against Him He will do what is necessary to draw us back into fellowship with Him. If you are not in fellowship with Him, you cannot walk with Him (Amos 3:3).
The only way to know Him, and to be known by Him is to trust Him through the work of Jesus Christ on the cross: His death, burial and resurrection. Then you are born into His family, and have fellowship with Him and can walk with Him when you walk, live by His Spirit.
