There are many things people place as important, and top priority.  Parents today place their children as top priority; sometimes even above the relationship between husband and wife – mother and father – and that many times causes breakup in the home.  That is for another article.

The top priority for any individual should be our relationship with God.  We are born into this world with an sinful heart (Romans 3:10, 23;  6:23), and a need for God.  We are born destined for Hell.

God has, however, stepped into this world in the Person of His Son and paid our sin debt; a debt we cannot pay.  That is why it is important for every individual to believe in Jesus.  John the apostle wrote near the end of his Gospel:

“And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book: but these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name.” John 20:30-31 (KJV)

After the bodily resurrection of Jesus Thomas doubted, yet when he saw Jesus he believed, and goes down into history as “Doubting Thomas”.  Many have believed even though we have not seen Jesus.  We believe because of the History of Jesus, the works, and life of Jesus, and the quickening (life giving) power of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said in John 17 prayer, “Sanctify them through Your truth: Your word is truth” (17:17). Paul the apostle has written, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).

So then, we can see the importance of hearing the word of God; so that we can believe that Jesus is the Christ, Son of the Living God; and God the Living Son.  Believing; that we might have life through His name.
