“Now God Himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you. And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you: to the end He may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.” 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13 (KJV)

When you have read all of First Thessalonians you will notice that each of the five chapters end with a thought about the coming again of the Lord Jesus.  Chapter three is ending that way as well.

The apostle is admonishing believers at Thessalonica to “Abound in love toward one another” as they see that time approaching.  Since no one knows the day or the hour, that means it is ongoing, and will never end.

Paul has acknowledged that they are already loving one another; but he is encouraging them to do it all the more since we live for that moment when we will see Jesus.

This message is for the believing Church today as well; for the Church in all ages we are to abound in love toward brothers and sisters in Christ.  We have brothers and sisters in Christ in other parts of the world who suffer for their faith, even unto death, and it is because of their faith and love for the Lord Jesus Christ.  Let us pray for them to be encouraged, emboldened in their faith, and for our faith and boldness to increase.

Let us be established in the faith, unblameable in holiness… at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.  He is coming soon.  Maranatha.
