“But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.” 1 Thessalonians 4:13 (KJV)
Paul is now addressing the question – “What about loved ones who have died before the catching away?”
“I would not have you to be ignorant…” and that is without knowledge, without comfort or hope. Ignorance is bad, but it is not the worse thing. The worse thing would be to remain ignorant, even though you are informed.
The verses which finish chapter four (vv. 14-18) explain what happens to our dead loved ones in Christ Jesus at His coming for His bride. They will be raised up; then those who are alive will meet them in the air to be forever with our Lord.
In the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ there is no reason for sorrow; as the world sorrows over the dead, as though there is no hope; but we can rejoice with those who have “fallen asleep” in the Lord.
Be sure you have received the gift of grace through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, then you will have the assurance that you will be a participant of this great day.
