“Therefore you shall speak to them this word: ‘Thus says the LORD God of Israel: “Every bottle shall be filled with wine.” ’
“And they will say to you, ‘Do we not certainly know that every bottle will be filled with wine?’
“Then you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD: “Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land—even the kings who sit on David’s throne, the priests, the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem— with drunkenness! And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together,” says the LORD. “I will not pity nor spare nor have mercy, but will destroy them.” Jeremiah 13:12-14 (NKJV)

Some reading this might have the impression this man likes talking about the judgment of God, the wrath of God.  I actually dislike it, but I was not called to please men, including myself.  The wrath of God is real, and it needs to be discussed.  It needs to be preached from the pulpits of our nation.  What does love mean if there is not wrath?

Let me give you some notes from a couple of Study Bibles concerning these three verses…

“It appears that God used a popular saying to remind His people of His faithfulness and His covenant. The filled bottles represented the land, and the wine represented the suffering and humiliation that would follow (Ps. 75:8).”  JEREMIAH STUDY BIBLE

13:12-14  Every bottle.  God pictured inhabitants of Israel in Babylon’s invasion as bottles or skins of wine.  As wine causes drunkenness, they will be dazed, stumbling in darkness (cf. v. 16), out of control, and victims of destruction (v. 14).”  MACARTHUR STUDY BIBLE

Christian let us never think that we are going to be without wrath; the wrath of God.  When we live as though there is no God, do not hear and do His word, there can be no other recourse but judgment.  When a wicked man or woman looks at a wicked Christian what does that wicked man or woman see?  Someone just as themselves.  So they ask, “What good is there in being a Christian?”

Christian,  let us show the world what Jesus can do and does by bearing the fruits of a righteous life through faith in Jesus the crucified, buried and resurrected Savior – our Lord and Savior.
