There are a lot of messengers in this old world. Everyone’s opinion is as good as anybody else. That is what we are told, and as far as human opinion goes; that is based assumptions and pretense; then your opinion is as good as mine. However, when it comes to the truths of God’s Word the opinions of men are not worth a jot or tittle of what He says.
Hear this message from the prophet Jeremiah…
Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, “Hear now, Hananiah, the LORD has not sent you, but you make this people trust in a lie. Therefore thus says the LORD: ‘Behold, I will cast you from the face of the earth. This year you shall die, because you have taught rebellion against the LORD.’ ”
So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month. Jeremiah 28:15-17 (NKJV)
The prophet Jeremiah had preached of the captivity being 70 years before they started returning to the Promised Land. It was a very unpopular message, but Jeremiah heard it from GOD, not men who were only proclaiming what men wanted to hear. Hananiah was one of those smooth messengers, who spoke words that were easy to hear; but brought forth only weeds, and chaff which are blown in the wind to meaninglessness.
False messages, and messengers are fruitless, profitless, and powerless when it comes to GOD. Let us who are the people of God be careful to hear God’s message; not man’s. Let us rightly divide the word too, and see the judgments as well as the promises as being God’s word to us.
When that preacher preaches only feelly goody sermons, always encouraging; but never, rebuking, correcting, or instructing in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16-17), then beware of that preacher. Many of these easy preachers are “Prophets of profit”, and “Fleecers of the flock”; who really care nothing for God, His word, or His people.
Death is the end result of us all; but does not need to be because of false teaching, or preaching. You note that the death of Hananiah was a result of his speaking against GOD and His message and messenger. Stand with God, His Word and His Spirit through His Son Jesus who died for your sins, was buried, and He rose again, and because of Him we live forever.
