“And Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites, “Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts and done according to all that he commanded you, therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: “Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not lack a man to stand before Me forever.” ’ ” Jeremiah 35:18-19

The message went out to the Rechabites to come to the house of the LORD.  Jeremiah offered them wine and they refused to drink because of the covenant of Jonadab their father.  He had made covenant to never drink wine, not sow see, or plant vineyards, but to dwell in tents (Jeremiah 35:6-13).  For many years the family, the heirs of the family continued that covenant, up to the time Jeremiah offered them wine.

This is a Biblical Illustration of  a people’s faithfulness to God.  Jeremiah used it as an illustration to the people of Judah and Israel of how they should have been; and could have been if they had only believed God.  It is really unbelief that causes people to rebell against God.  It is unbelief that causes His own people to rebell against Him.

This chapter shows us the curse that comes because of unbelief and the blessing for believing, and trusting in the LORD.

You may think you know what is right for your life.  If it is against God and His Word and His Son then it is unbelief and rebellion against God.  Yield to the Lord, His word and His Son who bled and died on the cross to save us, was buried, and rose again that we might have eternal relationship and fellowship with God.
