Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do any thing till thou be come thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar. Genesis 19:22 (KJV)

Zoar was the city where Lot had asked the angels that he might flee unto.  The name of the city means, “Brought low”.

Lot was in the city of Sodom which was about to be destroyed. It was the LORD’S purpose to deliver Lot and his family from this destruction.  There must have been some hesitation in Lot’s doing what he was directed to do.  Verse 16 of Genesis 19 says, “…the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters…” as though to tell us of their reluctance to leave.

Our verse for the day tells us that the destruction would not be done until Lot and his family is out of the city, and going to another place.  These words remind me of the words of the prophet Amos… “Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but He revealeth His secret unto His servants the prophets.” (Amos 3:7).

Those who do not know God accuse Him of being hateful, unloving, cruel, and so many other things.  It makes me cringe to even write what they say of Him.  I know Him.  I know Hime to be the God of mercy, love, grace, compassion, holy, righteous, and Just.

He does know how to deliver the righteous.

There is much evil in the United States of America and in the world today.  I believe I can say with confidence in God and His word that He is withholding judgment because of His people.  There are some unbelievers who have said, “I think the world would be a better place without all these Christians.  If they were gone the world would be a better place.”  You will one day get to see what the world will be like without God, and/or His people.  Believe me; in the end, you will not enjoy it.

Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved.
