“And the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses: so they pitched by their standards, and so they set forward, every one after their families, according to the house of their fathers.” Numbers 2:34 (KJV)
We enter today into the fourth book of the Law; Numbers. You will within the first few verses of chapter one see the reason for the title. It begins with a commanded order from GOD to number the men twenty years of age and over, but not the Levites. Over six hundred thousand are counted. That should tell us of the great number of the people on a journey, led by their Creator through rough, barren, and sometimes hot lands. The total numbers of people could be two million or more. That is my assumption, but by the numbers of men twenty years of age and above, I think a safe assumption.
If you have read the second chapter, and I pray that you have, then, you will see the LORD has placed them in certain places for the order of departure as they leave camp. Remember they only pack up when the Cloud over the tabernacle moves out. Our God is an ordered God, and He expects us to follow His order.
The twelve tribes camped around the tabernacle made of skins of animals, the outer ones dyed read. The tabernacle represented the presence of the LORD in their midst. With them situated as they were around the tabernacle then the representation was clear.
Christian friend the Church, the Body of Christ, is to be ordered as well. God has placed in His Church gifted people. Each part of the Body has a Spiritual gift from the Spirit of God that is to be used to honor and glorify God, to build up His Body (Romans 12; 1 Corinthians 12). These are not talents that we have but gifts of the Spirit. These gifts are to be used in the order, and in order that God gives them.
Every child of God is gifted by Him to do the work of the ministry to which He has called us. The child of God is one who believes God concerning His Son Jesus, His cross, burial, and bodily resurrection, and have surrendered their lives to Him.
