“According to the commandment of the LORD they were numbered by the hand of Moses, every one according to his service, and according to his burden: thus were they numbered of him, as the LORD commanded Moses.”  Numbers 4:49 (KJV)

The Levites were of the tribe of Levi, from which Aaron was born.  During the events of the deliverance of Israel from Egypt the tribe of Levi was set aside by God as a redeeming tribe for the whole of Israel.  The first born of every family was God’s.  He  has claimed the firstborn as His own (Numbers 3:13).  In chapter three is where the LORD commands that the firstborn be counted.  The did as the LORD commanded them.

In chapter four we find the LORD speaking to Aaron and Moses (4:1, 17, 21), and giving them commandment as to where each family of the Levites would serve.  The service of the Levites was the priesthood, through Aaron, then the other families of Levi would take up the tent, cover the ark of the covenant and mercy seat, the golden altar, the table, the menorah, they would carry the brass laver, and the brass altar.  Then some of them would also carry the “wall” around the tabernacle.  When the LORD moved in the cloud, the people would move with Him

By the gift of grace through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world we have Christ who takes us unto Himself, baptizes us in His Spirit, then as we yield our daily lives to Him He fills us with the Holy Spirit to walk with Him; in harmony with Him, His Spirit, and His word.

When Jesus comes into our lives He puts His laws into our hearts and minds.  He enables us to think as He think; to feel as He feels; to love as He loves; even to hate what He hates.  Our heart’s desires change toward a life that pleases Him.

His Commandments are in us.  Through the power of the Holy Spirit we will love to heed them.
