“And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, ‘Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation.’ And they three came out. And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.” Numbers 12:4-5 (KJB)
We live in a world today where all authority is challenged, if not completely rejected. I guess Adamkind has; at least since the fall; always challenged authority. Even the fall was a result of challenging the authority of God and His word.
The LORD had chosen Moses as the one who would lead Israel out of Egypt and through the wilderness toward the Promised Land. He had given Moses others who were to follow his leadership, and have some authority themselves, but Moses alone received the commandments from God, and direction for the tribes, and people. Aaron and Miriam; Moses’s brother and sister; thought they should have that same authority. Maybe it was due to they were brother and sister to Moses that they challenged… “Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? Hath He not spoken also by us?” (Num.12:2).
We all must realize that God has placed some in authority. We are all subjected to someone over us. When we are on our State’s and Nation’s highways we are subject to the laws of said roads, and our government has placed men and women in cars to monitor these roads to keep us driving safely, and protecting lives. If we get pulled over we are subjected to them. We treat them with respect saying “Yes Sir” or “Yes Mam”.
God has placed people in places of authority over us, and we are to treat them as though we were speaking to GOD Himself; because they are in that place by God’s hand. If they break the law, if they are disrespectful to you, then, that is still no excuse for your disrespect.
O why do we not yield to the will, the way, and the word of God? A disobedient, disrespectful, and sinful heart is the reason.
If you will love God, His Son Jesus, His word, His will, and His way then you will respect those who, by the calling of GOD, are in authority over us. Those in the local Church, those guarding our roads, towns, counties, cities; and those in our courts. The President of our nation has been placed there by God to fulfill His purposes for us, our Nation, and for whatever man is in that office.
Let us SURRENDER our wills to God’s will.
