Reading today from 2 Samuel 17 – 19…
“For the LORD had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.” 2 Samuel 17:14 b (KJB)
We all appreciate “Good counsel” from those who have a head and heart for wisdom. Do we always follow good counsel? Honestly. I know that I have not at all times followed the wise counsel of others.
The following is a quotation from the studies of John Gill on the words of Scripture shared above…
for the Lord had appointed to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel; for so it was to Absalom and his party the best and wisest that could be given them; but it was the Lord’s will it should be defeated, and therefore the minds of Absalom and of the elders of Israel were blinded:
to the intent that the Lord might bring evil upon Absalom; his person and cause; that his cause might be ruined, and he himself slain in battle; see Pro_19:21. John Gill, eSword
Let us always follow the good counsel of God through His word, and follow the teachings of our Lord; and the good counsel of godly men and women who love God and His word. The has purpose for even the bad advice we might receive.
Hear the gospel. Believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sins, that He was buried, and that He rose again. One day He is returning to take His children home with Him. Be ready.
