“Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.”  Jeremiah 6:16 (KJB)

In this 21st century it seems difficult at times to find time for rest.  Everyone feels the need to always be on the go.  I believe that we are so busy; whether with our career and places of employment; we dull our senses toward the most important Person in our lives.

We can find ourselves doing things without any thought of God, His handiwork we can see if we but take time and see it.

In the context of the above verse is written words that God was not pleased with the house of Judah.  They had neglected the right worship of the LORD God, thus had drifted into vain worship.  What had made it vain?  They had sacrificed sacrifices to the neglect of living according to the word of God.  It is that way in our Nation (the USA) today among professing Christians.

Churches provide all kinds of activities for people to do, adding to their already strained allotment of time.  There is nowhere in Scripture that says the Church is supposed to provide activities for their people.  The Church’s and the pastors and leaders responsibilities are to provide Biblical teaching, and direction for the people to walk with God; to always point people to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Do we want people to find rest for their souls?  I pray so.  The devil sure does not want us to find that rest.  There is only rest for our souls God’s way; and Jesus Christ is God’s way.

Stand in the ways of God.  Ask for those old paths and walk in them.  The way of God is the way of rest.
