“And He opened His mouth, and taught them, saying,
‘Blessed the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
Blessed the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Blessed the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
Blessed they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.’” Matthew 5:2-12 (KJB)
Pastor’s Prayer for today:
Our Father, Thank You for Your word, and today especially the words of Jesus Christ Your Son who spoke these words of blessing upon all who live in Your kingdom. Blessed be the name of the Lord Most High.
Lord we know that there is no true happiness except in that which comes from You. Give us peace. Thank you for the peace we have with You through the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Give us love for one another, and peace with those who hate You and despise your word; as much as is possible; and not a “peace at any cost”, but peace so that we may honor and glorify Your holy name.
Help us desire to know You; to mourn when we sin; to show forth the meekness of Jesus Christ in a world that is power hungry; may we live with a hungering and thirst for all that is righteous; to be merciful; and to have a pure heart. May we always seek opportunity to bring peace between two brethren who are at odds with one another.
Father in times of persecution; and we know too, that we have brothers and sisters in many parts of the world who are suffering through persecution for the cause of Jesus Christ: we pray that you strengthen them, encourage them, building on their faith; and through them give us who live in free nations courage and boldness to stand against an evil culture that is forcing its way upon us. Whatever comes Lord keep us in Your mighty hands.
Keep us the blessed, the fortunate, happy believer in Christ Jesus, His disciples, and glorify the name of Jesus. Amen.
