A POWER THAT IS HOLY
Joel 3:1-21
Outline of Joel –
- A People who are Hurting (chapter 1).
- A Promise that is Haunting (chapter 2).
- A Power that is Holy (chapter 3).
I. THE POWER TO GATHER THE NATIONS (vv. 1-8).
“For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.” Rev. 16:14
“For true and righteous are His judgments: for He hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of His servants at her hand.” Rev. 19:2
II. THE POWER OF GOD’S JUDGMENT (vv. 9-17).
“And His feet shall stand in that day upon the Mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with Thee.” Zech. 14:4-5
“Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” Acts 1:11
III. THE POWER TO REDEEM HIS PEOPLE (vv. 18-21).
Verse 21-
“A great truth of God lies at the foundation of the gospel system, that the blood of Jesus Christ, God’s dear Son, cleanses us from all sin. When someone is washed in the sacred laver that is filled with the blood of the atonement, he is not partially cleansed; he is thoroughly cleansed.” A note by Spurgeon from the Spurgeon Study Bible
“For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.” Isaiah 55:12-13
“And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.” Rev. 21:3
III. THE POWER TO GET US WHERE HE DESIRES US TO BE – SO FEAR NOT (Joel 2:21).
“Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things.” 2:21
