Study Outline for Amos 1 – 2:3

THE ROAR OF THE LORD

Amos 1:1 – 2:3

Amos is a herdsmen or shepherd who was called by God to go to the northern kingdom of Israel during the time of king Uzziah (also known as Azariah in 1 Kings 14:21ff).

Why would God send a shepherd from Judah to Israel? God still had compassion for His people though they were in a badly immoral, backslidden condition.

God would use the judgments against six nations to awaken some in Israel that if He will judge godless nations who did not know God or have His Law; then the people who had His Law would certainly be judged.

I.  THE ROAR OF THE LION (vv. 1-2).

Note the use of the phrase “For three transgressions… and for four”

Note the use of “fire” for the judgments

II.  THE JUDGMENT ON DAMASCUS (vv. 3-5).

III. THE JUDGMENT ON GAZA (vv. 6-8).

IV.  THE JUDGMENT ON TYRUS (vv. 9-10).

V.  JUDGMENT ON EDOM (vv. 11-12).

VI.  JUDGMENT ON AMMON (vv. 13-15).

VII. JUDGMENT ON MOAB (2:1-3).

In my preaching I do show how these prophecies are speaking to the Christian and the Church in this 21st century.
