The Old Testament Law required that there be more than on witness to any legal situation. We look today at Jesus’s declaration of His testimony and that of the Father, His works, and that of the Scriptures themselves.
“But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given Me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of Me, that the Father hath sent Me. And the Father Himself, which hath sent Me, hath borne witness of Me. Ye have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His shape. And ye have not His word abiding in you: for whom He hath sent, Him ye believe not.” John 5:36-38 (KJV)
The following is the study note from The Jeremiah Study Bible which includes study for the above verses:
5:30-39 The Torah mandated that a matter could only be legally established on the testimony of two or three witnesses (Deut. 19:15); thus, Jesus’ own testimony about Himself was insufficient. Yet rather than resting His case on the human witness of John the Baptist, Jesus appealed to: (1) the works the Father had given Him, (2) the Father Himself, and (3) the Scriptures.
Because of the truth of Jesus Christ Himself, the witness of the Father, and the Scriptures you can believe and trust in Jesus with your whole life. Trust Him and believe today.
